Flamenco Styles Taught

Tangos del Titi

Step into the heart of Seville’s Triana neighborhood with  one of flamenco’s most joyful and recognizable styles. Created by the legendary Manuel “El Titi,” these tangos are playful, rhythmic, and irresistibly danceable.

What makes them special?

  • Distinctive minor-key sound with the famous “lerele” chorus

  • Humorous, everyday lyrics full of wit and charm

  • Festive, communal energy rooted in Triana’s courtyards (corraleros)

Icons like Camarón de la Isla and Esperanza Fernández have carried this style onto world stages, but its essence remains joyful and communal.

In this workshop, you’ll learn not just the rhythm and steps, but the spirit of Tangos del Titi — playful, festive, and alive.

Bulerías

If flamenco had a heartbeat, it would be the Bulerías. Born in Jerez de la Frontera, this fiery style has become the ultimate showcase of flamenco’s spirit — fast, festive, and full of improvisation.

What makes it unforgettable?

  • Driving 12-beat rhythm that sparks energy and agility

  • Playful lyrics, shouts (jaleo), and clapping that turn any gathering into a fiesta

  • Improvisation and spontaneity — dancers, singers, and guitarists creating magic together in the moment

Often called the fin de fiesta (end of the party), Bulerías is flamenco’s grand finale.

In this workshop, you’ll feel its electricity — the daring footwork, the rhythm, and the fiesta spirit that makes it flamenco’s most dynamic form.

About The Venue

Peña La Pepa of New Orleans is the only venue in the city presenting Spanish artists in performance of live flamenco. It revives a tradition that was strong in New Orleans some decades ago, when flamenco dancer Teresa Romero Torkanowsky invited her colleagues from Spain to perform with her in a flamenco tablao in the French Quarter later to be known as Chateau Flamenco

The city has not seen a venue dedicated solely to flamenco performances since the days of Torkanowsky. This rebirth is dedicated to Teresa, which without her influence in me in New Orleans would not have come about.

Our performances bring a high caliber of artistry to the stage, while making it accessible to those who wish to pursue it on a personal level by attending classes taught by visiting artists.
