Voice of Tradition, Power, and Duende
About the Artists
Méndez was born into the legendary Méndez family of Jerez de la Frontera, heirs to the unforgettable voice of his great-aunt, La Paquera de Jerez. His artistry carries the power, depth, and raw emotion of that tradition while speaking directly to today’s audiences. Known for his mastery of bulería and soleá, he has shared the stage with flamenco greats including Moraito Chico, Rocío Molina, Gerardo Núñez, and Carmen Cortés.
🎶 He will be joined by acclaimed guitarist Manuel Valencia — and a surprise guest for a fiesta-style finale. Both Méndez and Valencia are headlining the Chateau Flamenco Festival the very next night, making this an even more unique chance to experience them up close.
Why Attend?
This intimate Peña is more than a concert — it’s a chance to show two of Spain’s most important visiting artists the appreciation of New Orleans audiences, while sharing in a night that ticks all the boxes: music, food, community, and the true spirit of flamenco culture.
A rare chance to experience Jesús Méndez and Manuel Valencia up close before their main-stage festival performance.
A true peña flamenca night — the kind of gathering usually only found in Jerez.
An opportunity for New Orleans to show its deep appreciation for flamenco and the arts, building cultural bridges between two deltas.
Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime concert at Peña la Pepa.

About The Venue
Peña La Pepa of New Orleans is the only venue in the city presenting Spanish artists in performance of live flamenco. It revives a tradition that was strong in New Orleans some decades ago, when flamenco dancer Teresa Romero Torkanowsky invited her colleagues from Spain to perform with her in a flamenco tablao in the French Quarter later to be known as Chateau Flamenco.
The city has not seen a venue dedicated solely to flamenco performances since the days of Torkanowsky. This rebirth is dedicated to Teresa, which without her influence in me in New Orleans would not have come about.
Our performances bring a high caliber of artistry to the stage, while making it accessible to those who wish to pursue it on a personal level by attending classes taught by visiting artists.
